1. Why this particular song/piece?

The song I have chosen represents the mythical battles that viking lore and stories tell. Horns, drums, and epicness.

2. how does this song effect your color scheme – why?

the colors are more earthen, which were generally the colors of viking clothing, also they aren’t bright colors, so it adds a tone of seriousness.

3. why your using this specific set of images and how does it effect the
content of the movie. (music choice, historical, symbolic, etc.)

I’m just trying to depict the lifestyle of a viking in a cartoonish yet serious way. Not sugar coating it.

4. what do you hope the viewer’s experience is? (emotional, political,
etc.)

That they enjoy it, but realize the lifestyle that the music at least represents.

I think from looking at the bands sites themselves, Destroy Destroy Destroy is melodic death metal, with strong viking and folk influence. Viking metal tends to include “lyrics talking about battles, mythical beasts and lost worlds”. The music definitely leads to this.

The fact that I want to use Destroy Destroy Destroy’s song allows me to invent more of an open-ended narrative or short, because there are no lyrics.

As far as patterns or other sources, I haven’t found anything that seriously match what I want to do.
I want to graphically depict the images so they are clear, but focus on solid colors.

Color Scheme will probably focus around dark blues, browns, black and red and dark orange.

I’ll do some color sampling from this site, and possibly use the patterns from the flags to add some authenticity.

Lastly, I’ve found some websites with viking ship models, which will help me get at least reference photos for ships and such. I’ve had some ideas already and I’ll need these references.

Final Five Finally

After lighting the greenhouse aflame, Refuse escapes for refuge in a park just outside the city, but is soon forced to move back into the city in an effort to completely escape the police.

Fluorescent Colors

In the future America that this story is set in, the country is now delved deep into civil war. The North and South have separated into sects of the now popular political parties the Extremists (formerly the Conservatives) and the Non-Confrontationalists (formerly the Liberals). As Refuse tries to escape the bright lights and sounds of the city, he passes many billboards and advertisements the Non-Confrontationalists display in an effort to end the war against the Extremists.

Metallics

During his escape, there are also a number of wanted posters floating around. There is his wanted poster, already among the piles of wind-blown trash on the streets, advertising and begging the arrest of this new and seemingly insane terrorist.

Transparency

Finally breaking the city’s limits, it’s already mid-day as Refuse avoids roads and populated areas. He begins to follow the river after ducking under the bridge for cover.

Expressive Line

Now far out into the country side, Refuse finds an abandoned railroad, and decides this will be a good place to rest until the panic he caused a few days ago settles down. All he needs now is time before he can strike again.

I definitely turned the color way up on the billboard in hopes to make it look more fluorescent. I don’t know if I should add anything else into the background or not but I think this gets what I want to across as far as the subject matter goes.

Metallics

For this, I turned down some of the vibrant color in hopes of making it more neutral and not so stunning to look at. If this still doesn’t work the way it should visually, I’m thinking about printing it out, and taking its picture as if it were actually posted to the side of a building, so it would actually flow better with the subject matter.

So I’ll go with color, I agree I like this one also. I turned up the light on his mask and body so we could see more of the mask, and I made the buildings in the background more visible.
