Careless – To the many who are heartbroken

It’s ridiculous how sad you can get from someone you didn’t even knows death. However, it would be just as ridiculous to not feel, as we are all human, and it will all happen to us one day.

I know I didn’t know him, but that doesn’t make me cry any less when I read the dozens of wall posts from his friends and family, even people who only knew him a little. To see how they hurt, how changed their lives are because of some idiot who was too careless to pay attention to what they were doing.

I’ve experienced deaths of people I knew my age before. I’ve been lucky that it’s never been anyone I was seriously close with, but at the same time, I couldn’t help but feel extremely upset knowing this person I was at least used to seeing, wasn’t going to be around anymore because of carelessness.

I pray for all of you, for all the families and friends and those of you mourning, hoping that your hearts will heal and you’ll be able to continue on.

Life will never be the same, but we keep going.

Today has been quite conventional. Granted, I managed to get a free lunch, went to the library for the first time in more than a year, organized multiple sections of my MTG table, and do my financial aid.

…I guess it wasn’t so conventional. Conventional would probably follow under me waking up, doing nothing until 4, going out and doing nothing until I came back home at midnight and playing video games until I fell asleep.

I can’t honestly admit like I feel like I accomplished anything though.

…On another note, it was brought to my attention maybe I could try and sell some of my stuff in efforts to afford a camera. Or a drumset. Or both. However, I really don’t know if I have any one thing of value that would be worth selling. I can guarantee you I have a crap ton of stuff I could sell that wouldn’t cost much at all. Just junk. Might be worth a try though.

Garage sale + Business cards sounds like a Win-Win idea. Lure people with the nagging human obsession that is want (ironic) and surprise! They now have a new logo for their band they’ve been trying to put together since high school. Will they be a great success? I don’t really care. I designed their logo. That’s all that matters. Do I like their music? It’s questionable. Using dangerous power tools to extract some form of demonic noises from their guitars seems weird enough to me to deem it “questionable”.

Lure! I am reminded.Oh. And Lost.

Quite honestly I have so many old ideas I really don’t think I even want to begin new ones. Maybe I should try and shoot down the old ones one by one before I even contemplate new ones. I would DEFINITELY enjoy a new camera, or maybe I should just deal with the one I have, while it’s not HD, it’ll still work.

I may be getting ahead of myself here, but who knows. It’s only the first weekend out from school..

I miss the PEOPLE from CCAD…I don’t really miss school itself yet. Let’s be clear on that. I think also that the school itself would be much more..entwined I guess I’ll say, if the majors themselves got to mingle. Yes we all have friends in different majors. Do we ever see any of their work other that whats on a wall at the end of the year? No, not really.

Somehow the school should rise up and demand classes that co-lab with each other. What an awesome experience that could be. Maybe it’s not in their budget…maybe not in their interest. Maybe the school should just hold more events that allow the students to mingle. I definitely felt less involved in community activities this year than last. I think it may be because they were so completely concerned with KEEPING EVERYTHING RUNNING PROPERLY (COUGH FLOOD IN DESIGN COUGH) that they never bothered to try and HAVE FUN every once in a while. For God’s sake the stupid carnival was canceled because they “thought it was going to rain”.

I really don’t know where that rant came from, but I’m quite sure many people may agree with me.

Freedom from Design For Media!!

As the like zero amount of people who read this may know, this blog has been used for Design 4 Media for the past year of school, but now since that’s all done and over with, I’m going to start using this blog as a place to post art. Maybe just daily ramblings. Who knows.

I plan on doing new things every week, or at least whenever I can manage this summer, because I want to actually start video blogging as well…WE’LL SEE WHAT HAPPENS, SHALL WE?

Final Product Producer Week #5

The whole idea for this project was to make an Evil League of Evil Application, based on the popular video by Joss Whedon, Dr. Horrible’s Sing-A-Long Blog.

My character is an evil…person that wants to get rid of all the electricity in the world, thinking it plagues the minds of everyone everywhere. However, due to the fact that electricity is everywhere, he can’t seem to escape the world powered by it. He’s has developed a hammer with magnetized sides made to screw up any electronic technology, not to mention it’s a giant hammer.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to draw the hammer in frame by frame like I had planned. Software problems + my lack of after effects knowledge = this problem. However! I plan to continue to work on this and develop my video and software skill.

Producer Week #2

This week I don’t have anything filmed quite yet. As you know, the costume is complete, I’ve figured out my setting, I just need to work out kinks with seeing when and where I can tape. I also finished the script, at least as what as close as I can get without ad-libbing during the shot. I am also working out how exactly I want this to be filmed, long continuous shot, or short quick cuts. Cuts will make it less stressful for line memorizing, but long shot will make it more fluid. Cuts could add the ability for screen presence and add a comedic air to the film. Like I said, this is all being finalized and is under consideration.

In the meantime, here is the “script”

Camera fuzz in, focus

“Welcome to my ev-”

Camera black out

Camera picture comes back, Josephus bent down mumbling

Stands up, “sorry, steam isn’t that compatible with these electric cameras”…

Camera zooms, but tilts down on tripod

“Crap”

picks up camera, shuffles over, sits down.

“…was planning on starting this better…” there is a pause.

“JOSEPHUS ATWOOD, STEAMMASTER, at the service of the Evil League of Evil! Welcome to my EVIL steam-powered lair!”

Josephus looks around

“When I say steam powered I mean electricity. And by lair I mean abandoned warehouse………I’m in the process of remodeling. Buildings these days arn’t outfitted for steam power. Electricity has plagued society, it’s rotted the minds of people everywhere what with their…touchy..screen cally things and their iwhatsits.

The world needs rid of this nuisance, and I seem to be the only one prepared to do so. As you can imagine, not so many people agree.

What do I plan to do? I plan to destroy any and all essences of electrical devices. Computers, phones, cars, ipods, everything! And those people that stand in my way? They’ll be no problem.

For it is steam that powers my wonderful weapon arsenal. Er. One weapon.

My pride and joy! My Copper Bane Invalidator! It’s a magnetized steam powered hammer, made to smash and pound whatever I need. Its blunt surfaces are magnetized, hindering any electronic devices useless, and providing me endless enjoyment in destroying EVERYTHING.”

Quite frankly, It’s all I need.

It’ll be quite the surprise when I come smashing through Washington, D.C. that is, with a menacing hammer built to render even the strongest of weapons useless! Bullets, missiles, anything! Useless! I won’t bother explaining the science, as your tiny, simpleminded little brain’s couldn’t comprehend such a masterpiece of machinery.

Steam is something of the past, yet I’ll make it the future.

At your request, I’ve at least been looking for that last thing for my costume, and been looking for places to shoot this. I took your advice and checked out what they’ve done to Design, and I’m really feeling the “lair” vibe, especially dead quiet, late night empty Design warehouse. If I can manage to get permission, I think I’d also enjoy shooting in the basement, seeing as it is quite an abandoned place that could be perfect.

Basic wardrobe, although I will not be using that exact vest. I bought a black one that fits, just for times sake, but if I can find a brown one in the coming week or so I’ll change. If not, maybe I’ll try and color correct after the video is put together.

The general area I’m looking to shoot at. I’m thinking for the most part stick to the third photo, and maybe move around. I couldn’t really get pictures of the basement, seeing as it’s blocked off for the most part. I’ll see what I can do though.
